ACTION Health partners with student organization at Bloomsburg University

Wheel of Misfortune 4-27-10- croppedACTION Health Cancer Task Force presented a program titled “Sun Safety: Myths, Risks, & Prevention” at Bloomsburg University on Tuesday April 27, 2010.  The evening started off with a student involved demonstration, called the “Wheel of Misfortune,” which demonstrates the probability of acquiring certain types of sun related skin ailments.  Following, keynote speaker, Cindy Rupp of Columbia/Montour Family Health, provided an in-depth presentation on sun and radiation damage to skin and the prevention strategies that can be used to reduce risk factors.

The program was sponsored by the Psychology Association of Bloomsburg University. This student organization provided a donation to off-set the cost of the refreshments, promoted the event on campus and even advocated with faculty to offer academic incentives for student attendance. ACTION Health is grateful for the ongoing partnership with the Psychology Association, who sponsored an event last semester and has pledged their ongoing support for upcoming programs.

ACTION Health also wishes to thank the other sponsors of the event, including GIANT Food Stores, Russell’s, Steph’s Subs, Subway, and The Washery System Car Wash, and Weis Markets, who each provided generous donations towards door prizes and refreshments. With these sponsors and the partnership with the Psychology Association, this program was a great success.
