Welcome new AmeriCorps Volunteer: Joshua Kline
Hello, I’m Josh Kline, new AmeriCorps volunteer with ACTION Health. Originally from the Middleburg area and graduate of Midd-West High School, I have also lived in Harrisburg and in Bloomsburg. In Harrisburg I attended Harrisburg Area Community College for a short time prior to transferring to Bloomsburg University to graduate with my Bachelor’s degree in Art History.
Prior to graduating from Bloomsburg, I was chosen by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission as one of their Keystone Summer Interns. I worked directly with the Eastern Regional Curator and was based at Landis Valley Museum. Besides working at Landis Valley Museum, I also worked at Joseph Priestley House in Northumberland and in the office of Collections Management and the bureau of Historic Sites and Museums in Harrisburg. This was a very intellectually rewarding and challenging position and I enjoyed it very much.
All through college and the internship I had a part time job as a pet care specialist at Superpetz and then at Petsmart. After graduation I chose to take a year school off before applying for graduate school. During this time off I wanted to spend my time wisely and be a part of a positive community organization, rather than simply working a part-time job. I found an advertisement for AmeriCorps in the local newspaper and felt it would be a good fit for me.
I was very interested in working at ACTION Health for the opportunity to learn more about preventative health issues and be able to relay that information to the public. Being immersed in education for years now, I was excited to work in the health and wellness genre since personal health is of vital importance. With this position I can gain experience in giving presentations but also attain an overall better understanding of health issues.
I am most excited for the opportunity to work as a liaison to the Cancer, Community Wellness and Health Communications Task Force groups. In addition, I will be working on a variety of media projects and campaigns for many community outreach programs of the agency. I am excited to be a member of the ACTION Health team and hope to bring something to this place to advance the programs which I will be a part of. After my time as an AmeriCorps member and working at ACTION Health, I plan to attend graduate school and study in Art history focusing on art of the Spanish Baroque.
Welcome Back!
After a week and a half break, we welcome back Lorri Perkins to her 2nd year of AmeriCorps service at ACTION Health. Lorri has been a dedicated team member since October 2008 and is excited to continue with her projects and programs.
Some of her new projects and goals will be to conduct Ask Me 3 programs for local seniors and other groups in the area. In addition, she’ll be providing new Healthy Eating and Grandparenting programs for the community. She will also build upon her successes from last year and continue to provide dental programs to area schools.
Lorri will continue to work as a liaison for the Aging & Wellness, Dental and Community Wellness Task Force groups. Her role within the agency will continue to center around program development, implementation and presentation.
This Spring, Lorri will begin classes at Luzerne County Community College. After completing her 2nd year in AmeriCorps, she will be continuing towards her degree, either in Human Services or Early Childhood Education.
We are most fortunate to have Lorri working with ACTION Health for a 2nd year!
